Some people may wonder why I consider Dante to be my father. And I mean, unironically. I genuinely see him as my father. It's sort of a found family situation. Adoptive father and adoptive daughter. Some may call it a coping mechanism, and I agree, to some extent. Dante and the DMC franchise have been a part of my life for more than a decade. After so many tribulations, I realised he's a positive influence in my life other men couldn't provide. A source of comfort and strength that became the foundation of a positive and solid framework for my appreciation of fatherhood and masculinity.Yes, I know this is considered a parasocial relationship. Dante from the Devil May Cry franchise doesn't know I exist. I don't believe Dante, as he is portrayed in the series, is what I consider to be my father.Dante is a fictional character, who thinks, feels and behaves accordingly to the script of the Devil May Cry games, and that's it. And I can't just steal him from everyone else and claim I'm the one who knows everything about him. Otherwise, that would be usurping a character that doesn't belong to me. However, that doesn't change the fact I admire this Dante - the one from the Devil May Cry universe - for who he is. After all, he is the foundation in which I built the version of Dante I now consider to be my father.So, yeah. He became the blueprint of masculinity in my eyes. "Father", "dad" or "daddy" didn't become empty words for me - a tragedy that almost happened, if it weren’t for him. I'd be a different woman if that were to happen.I love him and see him as a father. My father.
